First year 2004 - 2005

The first activities in Malta and Gozo (December 1 - 5, 2004) were very interactive and attended by 37 local PAMs, including nurses, psychologists, EEG technicians, pharmacists, social workers, facilitators and persons with epilepsy. They consisted mainly of moderated brainstorming sessions, presentations, mind maps, and questionnaires on the needs of e-learning.

The second meeting in Germany (April 7 - 10, 2005) organised by EUREPA and the Epilepsy Centre Bethel, involved elaborating basics for the website, basic structures for online conferences and preparation of contacts of partners via web as well as the design of a database for data collection for curricula development. In addition to this PAMs area of the EUREPA website, within its e-learning platform VirEpA an interactive website has been installed for the webbased collaboration within this project. The meeting in Bielefeld was held for PAMs already involved in life long learning and various already existing teaching models for PAMs were compared.

The third meeting was held in Hungary (June 3 - 5, 2005) by Budapest Bethel Epilepsy Centre Foundation (BBEC) involved a problem based learning seminar on national and joint level on psychosocial issues, for PAMs working at several psychosocial agencies in Hungary, who are giving psychoeducational courses for People with Epilepsy (PWEs) and their relatives.


Second year 2005 - 2006

At the first meeting of the second year in Berlin (January 26 - 28, 2006) organised by the Bethel Epilepsy Centre and EUREPA, the Deutsche Epilepsievereinigung e.V. (national organization of self support groups) was visited. In addition to the coordination of the Learning Partnership mainly the development of the Psychosocial module of the PAMs curriculum was elaborated regarding its topics (in relation to the content already delivered by the ILAE/IBE Working Group) and didactics.

The meeting in Budapest (March 29 - April 2, 2006) at the Budapest Bethel Epilepsy Centre Foundation continued with the development of the curriculum on essential knowledge of epilepsy and seizure observation sheets to be used by PAMs. The interactive workshop on "Education and Empowerment for professionals, for people with epilepsy and for their families" to be held at the 10th European Conference on Epilepsy and Society, the conference of the International Bureau for Epilepsy (organisation for lay persons and professionals interested in the non-medical aspects of epilepsy) from August 2 - 4, 2006 in Copenhagen/Denmark was prepared. This workshop shall disseminate some of the results of the work accomplished so far and input be asked to check these results with respect to the experience and expectations of the participants.

In Malta (June 7 - 11, 2006) this planned workshop of Copenhagen will be tested according to its content and didactics and the module on essential knowledge of epilepsy continued: Which knowledge is really essential and how can it be combined/transferred to its practical impact on life of people with epilepsy?
